Sociedad de Agricultores de Colombia, SAC, it is the largest agricultural growers association in Colombia and one of the oldest in the world. SAC was founded in 1871 as an ambitious plan of country agricultural producers and farmers to develop agricommerce and agribusiness across the country. At the beginning of the XX century, SAC was recognized by the Colombian government as Estate Consultant Organism and increased their influence to a private sector agricultural former policy institution, in order to procure the growth and development of the country in rural areas.
Actually SAC represent above 85% of overall agricultural production in Colombia and producers of most important crops like coffee, cane sugar, palm oil, rice, dairy, corn, pulses, swine, tobacco, flowers, cotton and natural fibres, fruits and vegetables, potatoes, plantains, cocoa, rubber and a large variety of products.
As part of its institutional action, SAC work in representation of farmers interests, policy design, tariff and commercial policy and represent farmers interests in trade agreements, production development, statistical data base and monitoring, government relationship, agricultural advising to affiliates.
