Canadian Federation of Agriculture

Background
The CFA was formed in 1935 to answer the need for a unified voice to speak on behalf of Canadian farmers. It continues today as a farmer-funded, national umbrella organisation.

The CFA is the largest national general farm organization in Canada representing over 200 000 Canadian farmers. It is a federation of provincial farm organizations and interprovincial and national commodity organizations united to speak with an authoritative voice for the agricultural community of Canada.

First organized in 1935 under the name Canadian Chamber of Agriculture, the CFA grew out of the need for one unified national organization to represent all agricultural producers in all provinces.

The CFA's mission is to promote the interests of Canadian agriculture and agri- food producers, including farm families, through leadership at the national level and to ensure the continued development of a viable and vibrant agriculture and agri-food industry in Canada

Canadian Agri-Food
Alliance

Background
The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) represents producers, processors and exporters of agriculture and agri-food products. Accounting for over 80% of Canada’s agriculture and food exports, and more than 50% of farm cash receipts, CAFTA’s members are united in their dependence on trade, and in their need for a liberalized international trading environment.

Across Canada, over 90% of farmers and producers are directly dependent on export markets; they either export their products or sell them domestically at prices set by international marketplaces. Export dependent farmers are in the majority in every Canadian province; their production constitutes a majority of farm gate receipts in every part of the country.
